Image compression for WordPress: our own engine, a plugin and pricing that grows with use.
What we did
Photon
Photon compresses JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF images on WordPress sites the moment they are uploaded. If the file gets smaller, the original is replaced, so pages load faster without a separate image service.
We built the whole product: compression engines in Helsinki, the API, the WordPress plugin, key and licence management, and a product page where visitors compress an image themselves and compare the result before installing anything.
Pricing grows with use: a free key by email with 1 GB a month, Pro and Scale for bigger sites, and a pay-as-you-go tier. Plans are changed in the customer portal, and the plugin runs in production on shops with tens of thousands of images.
